The f/1.8 is a great lens in general, at least if it's the same 50mm prime I have. In this case, the almost complete defocus of the background combined with the film grain really accentuates the subject.

I think the film grain definitely helps the texture of the subject as well. I think it probably adds even a little more texture than the monument itself has, which I can already imagine is substantial.

As someone who shoots exclusively digital, I'm not certain how much of the color saturation here is from the film and processing and how much is from postproduction work. Regardless of how it got there, it's lovely. The high saturation with the overall warmth of the photo gives the whole thing a midcentury feel that really works for the subject.
