Description

Tuesday, August 26, was Corky's and my 42nd wedding anniversary.  I took the day off and we drove down to Taughannock Falls State Park with a couple winery stops each way.

It was a very bright day and the falls were in the shadow, so photographing them was a challenge.  I shorted the development time to help keep the highlights under control.  It seems to have worked reasonably well.

This is one of my all time favourites of yours.
Classic lines, deep velvety textures, and a picture of a waterfall without any falling water - brilliant!

The intersection of falls and pond on the lower right third anchors this firmly, with the hint of water or mist coming down, and the strong lead-in line along the pool and rocks. Very strong triangle created there.

The tones, from the highlights on the water to the deep shadows with the hint of the rocks just edging out - very nicely done. And the silken tones of mist - I suspect that analogue may just be superior there!

But the over-arching feeling is that something is rising out of the water just there - maybe a monster, maybe lady with a sword in her hand. The moment is pregnant with possibility. If ever I make a fantasy movie, this image will get itself recreated somewhere, just before something momentous happens.
Well done sir!
