Happy fifteenth birthday, DeviantArt!

This is my #DeviantArtistQuestionnaire response.
  1. How long have you been on DeviantArt?
Ten years and counting. Core Member 'til Hell freezes over.

  2. What does your username mean?
    2005-007 The Pearwood Staff
From a "Once upon a time" writing prompt.
According to the most ancient rules, it might be considered cheating to use Lanse's words instead of coming up with something of my own for today's prompt (though Lanse's version was based on the event descriptions written by me and the other players). But it fit the prompt so perfectly and I'm sure you all wanted to know why I go about as Pearwood all over the Internet. So there you have it.
A couple years ago (February 2001) my evil gamemaster son pulled me into a PBEM game where I took the part of Radagast the hobbit, who had somehow acquired a staff of sentient pearwood. Hence my deviantArt  username. (Radagast was already spoken for.)
What follows is Spielorjh's version of Radagast's introduction. The accompanying image below the text is from a commissioned painting by AniaMohrbacher, known at the time as ScarletHawk

Before the water becomes too deep and too rough to walk, Havilan comes unexpectedly upon a small alcove

  3. Describe yourself in three words.
    Not retired yet.

  4. Are you left or right handed?
    Lefty.

  5. What was your first deviation?
    A devID by someone else
Just me and my Curtis by pearwood
    and a photo by me
2005-006 Black Creek in Bergen Swamp by pearwood

  6. What is your favourite type of art to create?
    Photography

  7. If you could instantly master a different art style, what would it be?
    Pencil drawings

  8. What was your first favourite?
Long since deleted, it seems.  First one still showing is
Queen's Bridge Colour Repost by belfast-steve

  9. What type of art do you tend to favourite the most?
    Photography.

  10. Who is your all-time favourite deviant artist?
    That would probably be Gold-Seven.
    The long answer is pearwood.deviantart.com/journa…

  11. If you could meet anyone on DeviantArt in person, who would it be?
I told my wife ctryon50 that if she ever gets a phone call, "Hi. I know Steve on dA. He told me I should come use his guestroom if I'm ever in the area.", it's likely to be legit.

  12. How has a fellow deviant impacted your life?
It would be a long list.  All the ones who encouraged me early on and all the ones I've been able to encourage along the way.

  13. What are your preferred tools to create art?
Classic film cameras, especially my #YashicaD.

  14. What is the most inspirational place for you to create art?
Out walking by myself with the camera.

  15. What is your favourite DeviantArt memory?
Every time someone says, "Thank you; that was helpful."

Steve's suggestions on how to leave a good comment...
  1. Tell the artist what caught your eye, something your particularly liked or didn't like.
  2. Tell the artist something you think they could have done differently or better.
  3. Suggest an alternate title; it tells the artist what you saw in the image.
  4. Interact with the artwork, continue its story.
  5. Ask the artist how or why they did something.
  6. If nothing else, even "Ooh, pretty!" or "Oh, ick!" is a lot more information than no comment at all.
Enjoy!

Because it's past time for white-haired white men to stand up and say it.
The Heidelberg Catechism , written in 1563, remains a warm-hearted and personal statement of the Christian faith. It begins thusly...

What is your only comfort in life and in death?

That I am not my own,
but belong--
    body and soul,
    in life and in death--
to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ.
He has fully paid for all my sins with his precious blood,
and has set me free from the tyranny of the devil.
He also watches over me in such a way
that not a hair can fall from my head
without the will of my Father in heaven:
in fact, all things must work together for my salvation.

Because I belong to him,
Christ, by his Holy Spirit,
assures me of eternal life
and makes me wholeheartedly willing and ready
from now on to live for him.
