End of an era

Wed Nov 30, 2011, 2:49 PM
I developed rolls five and six from the Iowa trip today.  I think I'll drop off the batch at Scott's Photo tomorrow and have them do a quick scan and print so I can look them over and see what's worth working up.

Scott's is closing up shop at the end of the year.  With the general consumer market all digital, there isn't much business to keep the independent photo shop in the black.  The hobbyist photographers may have been their buddies, but we were never the ones who paid the bills.

They will be missed.

Feel free to use any of my waterscape or landscape photographs as stock images. I ask only that you let me know, and that you post a link to the original.

The Heidelberg Catechism, published in 1563, remains one of the warmest expressions of the Christian faith ever written. This is how it begins.
What is your only comfort in life and in death?

That I am not my own,
but belong --
     body and soul,
in life and in death --
to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ.

He has fully paid for all my sins with his precious blood,
and has set me free from the tyranny of the devil.
He also watches over me in such a way
that not a hair can fall from my head
          without the will of my Father in heaven;
in fact, all things must work together for my salvation.

Because I belong to him,
Christ, by his Holy Spirit,
assures me of eternal life
and makes me wholeheartedly will and ready
from now on to live for him.

I lost my processor four years ago. I used a local Ritz camera, a victim of the online buisness. I can get prints made from electronic files but no one will process some of my Tri-X film... I have to go into NYC. Sad.

could a co-op of non profits take over the site, or would that be too expensive/not practical

Even a nonprofit has to pay the rent. There are other resources available for us hobbyists, such as Community Darkroom.

The specialty shops will stick around, but it's tough on the general store types.

That's sad :( They say: To all things come an end. But it's always sad to be part of it. I hope Scot will be alright. I keep my fingers crossed! :)

Thanks. The four full-time employees have been there a long time.
