The mad scramble

Sun Nov 6, 2011, 4:51 PM

The first offer fell through.  The seller decided to take the house off the market.  We're meeting with the Realtor tonight to put in an offer on one of the other places we looked at and are quite taken with.  We expect this one to go through much more easily.  I am, by the way, planning a 365 tour once we start moving in.

We'll also be putting together a response to the inspection report, to get that tidied up and on its way.

I got a new (to me) Canon AE1 the other day from a cohort at work.  You'll see some 35mm work shortly.  More on that later.

Engineering inspection here yesterday afternoon.  I doubt anything too terribly awful turned up, though we have not heard yet one way or t'other.

We put in an offer on a place (with all the papers dated 11/11/11).  It's something of a long shot as we're not sure that the seller is ready to let go of what was the house of his aged parents.  We have a couple of alternatives in mind, both unoccupied, that we could move into quickly.  Moving into something much smaller is going to be both challenging and exhilarating.  We're looking forward to shedding a lot of the complicating stuff we've accumulated over the years.

Developed film last night.  Should have a couple to post this evening.

On Thursday we're going out househunting with our Realtor.  Yay! This is actually going to happen!  Terror!

As of this noon, we have an accepted offer on our house!

Now the mad scramble becomes the scramble to be out of here by the end of the year.  We have our eye on a couple places, but we were too wired today to do much constructive looking or thinking, much less deciding.

I have three rolls of black and white Yashica squares waiting to be developed.

It's been a zoo.

The Heidelberg Catechism, published in 1563, remains one of the warmest expressions of the Christian faith ever written. This is how it begins.
What is your only comfort in life and in death?

That I am not my own,
but belong --
     body and soul,
in life and in death --
to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ.

He has fully paid for all my sins with his precious blood,
and has set me free from the tyranny of the devil.
He also watches over me in such a way
that not a hair can fall from my head
          without the will of my Father in heaven;
in fact, all things must work together for my salvation.

Because I belong to him,
Christ, by his Holy Spirit,
assures me of eternal life
and makes me wholeheartedly will and ready
from now on to live for him.

So very happy for you all... I am jealous. My house has been on the market for a year now. I have lowered the price by $14,000 and it still sits. It is a lovely house, in a great area. I think I need a more ambitious Realtor????? Whats the secret????? [link]

Beats me. Rochester has been hit hard by the housing slump, not as hard as a lot of areas. Our asking price was considerably below appraised or assessed value, but when we looked at the comparison properties, we weren't going to get anywhere near what the bank appraised it for a year and a half ago when we refinanced. We do have a very fine Realtor, but I think there's more to it than that.

Enjoy the adventure!
You've been there how many decades?
Amount of stuff to go through is exponentially proportional to the time spent in a place. Good luck!

Thanks. I expect the snow will make it before we do, but worse things could happen.
